Guppy Reproduction

Guppy Reproduction
The gestation period of a guppy is 21–30 days, with an average of 28 days, varying according to water temperature. After the female guppy is inseminated, a dark area near the anus, known as the gravid spot, will enlarge and darken. You'll begin to see a small gravid spot on the females in 2-3 weeks. Adult male guppies reach a size of approximately 1.2 inches and adult female guppies reach a size of about 2.4-2.5 inches. It is best to keep at least 2-3 females per each male because male guppies often harass the females. Guppies prefer neutral (pH of 7.0) to slightly alkaline water and the water temperature should be between 72-83 degrees Fahrenheit or 22-28 degrees Celsius. From the moment of birth, each fry is fully capable of swimming, eating, and avoiding danger. Live plants may be used as hiding places for the fry. Baby guppies can be fed newly hatched brine shrimp, newly hatched daphnia, or they can be fed dry food.
